Observatory - Southern Suburbs
Observatory is a quaint Victorian styled suburb, rich in colour and diversity. It’s situated 10 minutes south of central Cape Town, looking up at Table Mountain’s striking companion, Devil’s Peak.
Observatory’s quaint homes almost always feature wooden floors, pressed ceilings and houses painted in a variety of colours.
Obs, as it is affectionately known, features an exciting nightlife attributed to the variety of cozy restaurants and quaint pubs closely scattered throughout Lower Main Road.
Two prominent buildings dominate Observatory. One of them is the famous Groote Schuur Hospital where Dr Chris Barnard performed the world’s first heart transplant. The other is the SA Astronomical Observatory from which the Observatory name originated.
